Characters:

  • The Lecturer: The authoritative, moralizing narrator of the show who serves to warn the audience about the evils of marijuana. He also doubles as other authority figures like Jesus and FDR.

  • Jimmy Harper: The innocent, clean-cut, and ambitious high school valedictorian whose life spirals out of control after taking his first puff of the "evil weed".

  • Mary Lane: Jimmy’s sweet, sheltered, and deeply devoted girlfriend. She begins as a pure-hearted innocent but eventually falls into the madness herself.

  • Jack Stone: The menacing and manipulative purveyor of the Reefer Den. He is the show's dark, charismatic villain who introduces the kids to marijuana and exploits them.

  • Mae Coleman: The aging, weary, and trapped den mother of the Reefer Den who desperately depends on Jack and her reefer habit.

  • Ralph Wiley: A former fraternity man and college boy whose life has completely derailed due to his marijuana addiction. He descends into paranoia and violence.

  • Sally De Bain: A sexy, seductive resident of the Reefer Den. She possesses the tough, fast-talking moxie of old Hollywood starlets and sings the bluesy, tragic lullaby for her baby.

***Additional Notice***

An intimacy notice for Reefer Madness, the show contains stylized depictions of sexual content, simulated intimacy, and adult themes.

The satirical musical features several hyper-exaggerated, campy, and drug-induced fantasies.

  • Simulated Intimacy: Over-the-top, provocative, or simulated sexual movements often performed under the influence of the "drug menace".

  • Suggestive Costuming: Characters in revealing or period-appropriate S&M/burlesque-style clothing.

  • Themed Fantasy Sequences: Hallucinatory scenes like "The Orgy" which utilize methods of story telling and choreography.
